or, why does everything suck
in the beginning there was a primordial soulp out of which all life as currently known emerged. For reasons outside of my understanding, the thing that they did was eat each other for millions of years, until the current day.
no creature is excent of being some other's creature meal. And even when its life has been snuffed in one way or another, dead creatures also consist of material upon which other creatures can feast on.
This is not a cycle that repeats perpetually, even if matter is strictly conserved, it stops being useful for nourshment at some point, as not all matter is equally edible for something.
Rocks in particular, seem to be pretty useless to sustain life. So do certain organic-like substances, which by its configuration, can be harmful to most all living things, but for a handful of extreme adaptations.
There is a wide range of things that eat other things, and many of these could not be called creatures, and these are usually pretty stable in their adaptations and with relative little mobility. Plants and mushrooms in particular. They would appear to be present in pretty much any environment, even those which would prevent the majority of mobile life to settle.
In some way, there has been an implicit agreement on the colonization of the planet, and seemingly the growth of creatures went along the growth of the immobiles, as by eating each other they could expand their reach in whichever way fit their particular adaptations; some plants would rely on seeds being transported in the digestive tract of mobile creatures. Others would rely on letting the environment or sheer luck do the actual work of reaching more suitable places.
The process of reproduction was also a big mystery, what is it that causes all life in earth to have an innate need to make copies of themselves ?
Eating each other on one hand, and creating new versions of their particulars on the other hand. There are many ways to inpterpret this quite innate disposition.
on the one hand, one of the priviledges of a stronger creature, is to submit other creatures, and by exploring each other, they were able to understand the possible uses of their own bodies.
I wonder what came first, the need to eat each other, or the need of reproduce. It seems evident that not all creatures find the act of impregnation equally desirable, some get eaten right after extracting their genetic material, others can have said sharing of biological substances without direct contact between.
So power itself is not the driver, but instead, the base configuration what drives the eating, a metaphysical root of this struggle. To eat each other, also means preventing others to eat one's own. And the way to prevent being eaten is to protect oneself against the known dangers. How did adaptations create such variation? Through millions of years, there were conchs, exoskeleton, thick skins, and all sorts of strange variations. Another possible defense is to have multiple versions of "you", and have them both protect and procure the needs of each other.
Community seems to be a very simple way to ensure survival, and also, improving the chances of feeding. A downed comrade can as well become food, just like any other vanquished creature.
i cant think of where to go with this.
