how to start a story?

sometimes, i just think about nothing in particular, and end up making up a nice story.

other times, i just need to spend a lot of time to come up with a good enough image to try force something out of it, and these times, most often will not really end up with anything interesting.

my image right now is of a robed man, with white hair, a typical robe and pointy hat, riding an  eagle flying in open blue skies with clouds in the distance, and a dragon in a distance flying sideways maneuvering against the spells the wizard is casting.

the dragon is flapping the wings which are incredibly wide, making the body look small in comparison.

the wizard is raising his staff above, which is a large wooden carved staff with a shinning blue magical gem on the crown, emanating several pointed burst of energy with a rainbow light beam twisting on the air as if homing towards the dragon. the smaller bursts of energy are flying in spiraling paths to all around the dragon.

The dragon is defending itself by using magic shields which show ornamented patterns floating around its own body, intercepting the magic attacks, leaving a series of fading patterns dotting the dragon’s trajectory.

Each dragon shield is taking the hit of several magic attacks, which dont seem to slow in intensity and speed. The dragon maneuvers calmly and confident, almost as if having a good time playing with his foe.

the wizard, while clearly exerting an effort, seems confident as well, fully aware that just a barrage of magic attacks will not cause much trouble for the dragon. While with his other hand is holding a spell book, preparing a more powerful spell which he estimates will surely cause some damage.

The dragon, unaware of the next attack, is twisting, showing off its agility and resistance to the wizard attack.
